A new park in a southeast Manteca neighborhood is being dedicated in honor of Fire Captain Tom Moore’s memory.

The dedication takes place Friday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at 1905 Enchantment Drive in a new Griffin Park neighborhood.

Moore died on June 16, 1999 during a Manteca Fire Department training session. He had served the community for more than  20 years at the time of his death.

“It is an honor to name parks for people who helped build the community,” said Toni Raymus, a second generation Manteca home builder.

Raymus Homes along with the Manteca Fire Department and City of Manteca are hosting the park dedication.

Raymus Homes have named several parks after people who left their mark on the community.

One is Willie Weatherford Park that is on Dilip Street located in Griffin Park as well.

Weatherford served three terms as Manteca’s mayor after retiring as police chief. He also played key roles in a number of community endeavors including the Manteca Boys & Girls Club.

Raymus Homes named a park as well after fallen Marine Cpl. Charles Palmer at Sephos Street and Cambra Lane in the neighborhood south of Woodard Avenue between Oleander Avenue and Union Road.

Palmer was a Manteca High graduate who lost his life during the war in Iraq.

Griffin Park is a master planned community consisting of a collection of neighborhoods with 1,301 homes located generally to the southwest of Main Street and Woodward Avenue.
