Oak Avenue Park / Mistlin Fountain in Ripon is getting a makeover with tree trimming, removing deadwood, and thinning out of the canopy as part of the recently-approved Tree Pruning Maintenance Project.

Several parks and landscaped areas in the City of Ripon are due for a makeover of sorts.

For that, Grover Tree Service was brought on to provide services such as tree pruning / removal maintenance. The Ripon City Council approved the Modesto-based business to handle this landscape project in the amount not to exceed $35,175.

Payments here were divvyed from Parks General Capital Fund ($24.245), Street & Road Landscape Maintenance Fund ($3,250), and Main Street Landscape Maintenance District Fund ($7,680), according to Public Works Director James Pease’s staff report from the Oct. 10 meeting.

No discussion was necessary by elected leader in the hiring of Grover Tree Service.

Pease’s staff is responsible for maintaining a large number of trees at multiple parks along with tot lots, landscape medians, parkways, and various city-owned facilities.

He noted that occasionally outside services are needed to safely and efficiently provided maintenance once trees reach a certain height.

Grover Tree Service agreed to do all trimming and removing of all major deadwood around the upper section of Stouffer Park – 28 trees in all – along with removing and grinding down stumps on a pair of trees.

They’ll do likewise at Oak Park / Mistlin Fountain with three trees, thinning the growth on the canopy and power pole. Work also consists of removing and grinding stumps on seven trees.

Eleven Sycamore trees on Main Street along Wilma Avenue and Acacia Avenue will need trimming and lifting of canopies along with thinning and removing sucker plants. Grover Tree Services will handle any broke hangers, clean up street light areas, and shape up trees.

Four palm trees in this area are in need of trimming and removing to seed pods.

On another portion of Main Street, between Acacia Avenue and Industrial Avenue, Grover Tree Services will cut back growth along building / structures / lights, thinning and removing sucker plants and cleaning up – in particular, pedestrian and vehicle clearances – the area consisting of 63 crape myrtle trees.

Pease added: “Once the work to remove the trees at Stouffer and Oak Avenue parks is complete, public works staff will plant a combination of trees and shrubs to fill in the gaps in landscaping.”
