Braydon Rollins had the day off from school on Monday.
The St. Anthony’s School fourth-grade student made use of his free time by helping out Sister Ann Venita Britto and her Ministry of Caring at the “Just Because We Care” luncheon.
Rollins, 10, served food and drinks to some of the estimated 30 developmentally disabled consumers from Valley CAPS, including CAPS Plus – about 14 took the guided walk to St. Anthony’s from the facility located at the corner of North Main Street and West North Street – and CAPS Able.
He’s familiar with the luncheons, in particular, the senior functions.
“I used to come here with my grandparents (at the luncheons),” said Rollins, who not only helped serve lunch, but assisted in the clean up and the distribution of the drawing prizes.
The meal was made possible by Ministry of Caring members Sheila Robello, who provided the hot dogs, and Darleen Auch. The latter donated both the buns and chips while also leading the way in the dancing part of the event.
Sister Ann scheduled the “Just Because We Care” luncheon prior to the Easter event for seniors on April 27.
“We wanted to make this special just for CAPS,” she said.
