OAKLAND  (AP) — Authorities say two people were arrested and two police officers were hurt while trying to break up gatherings of hundreds of car enthusiasts who descended on Oakland.

Officials say more than 100 vehicles could end up towed after the so-called “sideshows” early Sunday at several locations where people gathered to see cars spinning doughnuts and peeling out.

Police Lt. Mark Rhoden tells the East Bay Times that participants fired guns into the air and some officers trying to clamp down on the activities had rocks and bottles thrown at them.

Two officers suffered minor injuries. One officer was hit by a flying object, and another officer in a patrol car was rammed by a vehicle participating in the sideshows.
