FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Officials have released the name of a 19-year-old man who was fatally shot by an officer responding to a report of a threatening man near the Colorado State University campus.
Jeremy Holmes of Fort Collins died Saturday night after being shot several times, the Larimer County coroner’s office said. Fort Collins and university police officers were involved in the shooting, which is under investigation.
Fort Collins police Officer Erin Mast fired her weapon during the incident, police said in a statement released Monday. Campus police Cpl. Philip Morris also fired his weapon in the incident, the university said Monday.
Both officers were wearing body cameras during the shooting, and both were placed on paid administrative leave pending investigations, their respective departments said. Both departments said they planned to release footage once investigations were completed.
Officials have not said what precipitated the shooting. But they did say Holmes had an unspecified weapon.
Holmes’ death was one of four officer-involved shooting deaths in Colorado in a 48-hour period that began just before midnight on Thursday.
On Friday night, a Larimer County sheriff’s deputy shot Chet Knuppel, 23, of Fort Collins, while investigating a crash involving a stolen vehicle between Fort Collins and Loveland, the coroner said. The suspect had fled on foot when he was shot.
Early Friday, police said officers shot and killed a woman and injured another after a carjacking and high-speed chase that ended in Denver.
Stephanie Lopez, 32, was killed early Friday in that case, the Denver Medical Examiner said Monday.
Authorities had yet to identify the second woman injured in the shooting.
Denver police said the pursuit began after a carjacking late Thursday in suburban Littleton, and that Littleton and Englewood police were involved in a six-mile (10-kilometer) chase.
Also Friday, Westminster police said officers shot and killed a suspect who had several warrants for his arrest and brandished a weapon after trying to run to a car to flee officers.
Westminster police investigator Cheri Spottke said she had no new information on the case Monday. The Adams County district attorney’s office was investigating.
