The celebration for Read Across America has already begun.
On Friday, students at French Camp Elementary School celebrated the birthday honoring Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
Officially, Dr. Seuss’ birthday is Today, with “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” as this year’s theme.
Students at Ripon and Manteca Unified schools will again enjoy a day of fun reading and activities in the spirit of Dr. Seuss, joining thousands of schools, libraries and community centers across the country.
This annual reading motivation and awareness program is made possible by the National Education Association.
At French Camp, kindergarten through third-grade students gathered around to enjoy a reading of “Green Eggs and Ham.”
But first, youngsters were served a special meal of green eggs and ham as prepared by Manteca Unified’s Nutrition Services.
“Students then were able to participate in a read-around,” said Julie Albers, the school’s program coordinator.
Over a course of an hour, they were escorted by Leadership students to three different classrooms, where teachers read to them their favorite book.
“It was day filled with a lot of excitement for reading,” Albers added.
Oh, the places theyll go
