Two robbery suspects intentionally rear-ended a family vehicle with the intent to commit a robbery earlier this month on Friday, Oct. 9, at about 9:30 p.m. making off with the occupants’ valuables.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of South Austin Road and Sedan Avenue for an armed robbery reported at that location where a white two-door Ford pickup truck collided with another southbound vehicle.
The victim’s vehicle contained a 42-year-old female driver, a 38-year-old front seat male passenger and another rear seat female passenger who was said to be 70 years old. Police said the driver of the car pulled to the shoulder of the road after the collision with the driver and one passenger exiting the vehicle.
Police said the Ford pickup also pulled to the shoulder of the road after the collision and its driver exited his vehicle while the passenger remained inside. The pickup driver asked if the passengers in the car were alright and advised the driver they needed to exchange information.
The pickup driver allegedly began to pull on the strap of the woman’s purse which she had secured over her shoulder. He reportedly struck the left side of her face and broke the strap to the purse, making her get down on the ground.
Going to the woman’s aid, another passenger was robbed at gunpoint. The other woman in the car exited the vehicle and was also robbed of her purse. As this was occurring, the second suspect slid into the driver’s seat of the pickup as the driver walked back and entered the front passenger’s seat. The vehicle then left the area heading southbound on Austin Road, police reported.
Medics responded to the scene and checked the condition of the woman driver, according to her request. She was not transported to a hospital and all the victims eventually left the scene in their vehicle, police said.
Both men were described as African American males 25 to 30 years old, one with afro style hair that puffed out a few inches wearing a plain black hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and dark shoes.
