The big holiday event of the SONdance Christian Dance School is this weekend.
The performance of “The Heart of Christmas – Tidings of Comfort and Joy” is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Performing Arts Center, 435 N. Maple Ave. in Ripon.
Cost is $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Tickets are still available.
SONdance is an interdenominational ministry consisting of dancers from various churches. It was founded in 1988 by Jolynda Lyon, who, because of her strong religious beliefs, set forth on putting together a ballet school “to protect the innocence of young people and maintain modest movements and dress,” according to the official website, www.sondance.org.
The dancers have been rehearsing for several weeks.
The program consists of performers ranging in age, from kindergarten through college. They come from throughout San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.
While SONdance has been putting together Christmas performance for years, “The Heart of Christmas” praises the real meaning of this special holiday.
