MODESTO LOSES 140 JOBS:  MODESTO - The news isn't good for workers at Post cereal's Modesto plant.

Post Holdings, Inc., announced it will close the plant at 901 E. Whitmore Avenue where approximately 140 people work. The company expects to complete the shift of the plant's production to other facilities and closure by September 2014.

Post manufactures Grape-Nuts cereal at the Modesto plant.

The decision was reached, according to Post management, after discussions with union workers at the Modesto facility.

Post said it expects to see a pre-tax cost savings of approximately $14 million with the Modesto closure.

Word of the possible closure was first reported in March.

STOCKTON MAN DIES AFTER SHOOTING: STOCKTON - A man shot in Stockton succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital Monday night.

Officers responded to the 9400 block of Fox Creek Drive at 8:51 p.m. following a report of a shooting and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Stockton Police reports.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Police said detectives were dispatched to the scene and were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

TREE FALLS ON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT: PATTERSON - A Patterson High School student escaped serious injury when a tree on campus fell on her Monday morning.

Hanna Estrada, 17, said she was walking in the court yard at Patterson High School when she heard a loud crack.

Estrada said a 50-foot pine tree fell on top of her chest making it difficult to breathe.

According to Patterson Joint Unified School District Supt. Phil Alfano, Hannah Estrada was temporarily trapped under the pine tree until emergency responders removed it. She was reportedly just sore but was still transported to an area hospital to make sure she was OK, Alfano said.

Estrada said she fractured vertebrae and has several cuts along her back, arms and legs but is thankful she is alive.

Since there are three other trees on campus the same age as the one that fell, Alfano said an arborist was assessing them. As a precaution, since the trees were near three classrooms, students in those classes were moved to another part of the campus for the day.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m.
