BAKERSFIELD (AP) — Kern County Sheriff's officials are looking for the man who sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl in broad daylight in the yard of her Bakersfield home.
The man grabbed the girl while she was playing around 3 p.m. Monday, took her to an isolated area on the side of the yard and sexually assaulted her.
Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt says someone inside the house spotted what was happening. The man was seen running from the area by two family members of the girl.
Sheriff's officials have released a sketch of the suspect and are asking for the public's help in identifying him.
They say he may be a transient, and several people have reported seeing him in the area pushing shopping carts and collecting cans.
