Cydnee Zing of Manteca was trapped in her 1994 Honda hatchback shortly before noon Tuesday after her vehicle was struck by an eastbound 1994 BMW driven by Ruizhen Zhong, 38, of Manteca.
Manteca Police traffic officer Patrick Danipour said the collision on Louise Avenue near McKinley Avenue was believed to have been caused by a new silver Mercedes with paper plates that was westbound and in the process of passing traffic on the wrong side of the street, according to witnesses.
The officer explained that the crash occurred when the driver of the BMW attempted to avoid a collision and drove onto the shoulder, overcorrecting when she attempted to get back on the roadway and crashed into the Honda.
He added that neither driver was at fault in the crash.
The scene was just inside the Manteca city limits, however the Lathrop-Manteca Fire Department arrived at the scene first and rescued the woman from her car. The other driver was not injured in the crash.
The victim was transported to San Joaquin County Hospital by Manteca Ambulance for treatment. Officers from Lathrop Police Services provided traffic control for an hour until the scene was cleared from the roadway.
