Clara Louise DeArmond was born January 9, 1925, in Pauls Valley, OK and passed away November 18, at Doctors Hospital of Manteca, after a long illness, at the age of 84.
Clara is survived by her husband Howard R. DeArmond, of Manteca; son, Harold & (Jan) DeArmond of Modesto and son, Sterling Lynn DeArmond of Chico; one grandchild, Thomas R. DeArmond of Chico; and sister, Maxine Stewart of Alex, OK.
She will be missed by friends and family alike. She achieved something not many can claim as she celebrated her 67th anniversary of marriage on October 31 of this year. She was a homemaker and took wonderful care of her home and family. She was an excellent cook and could taste a dish and name all the spices in it. Her many varieties of pies and cakes were especially noteworthy. She loved all kinds of flowers and knew the name of any flower she saw. She always stressed the value of education to her two sons saying “an education is something that no one can ever take away from you”. The message took as both her sons have had long careers as professional educators.
Clara is a former member of the choir of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. In her younger days she was also a very active member of the Legion of Mary at St. Anthony’s and did a great deal of volunteer work through the church.
Clara was blessed with one grandchild Tommy DeArmond who was the light of her life. She was always interested in his many sports activities and when she spoke with him she was pleased to hear Tommy report that everything and everyone was “good”. She looked forward with great anticipation to his visits and loved beyond description.
As she became less active she enjoyed playing table games. One of her favorite pastimes was the weekly Yhatzee game with family. She still holds the record for the highest scoring Yhatzee game of any of the players.
Clara’s family wishes to convey profound thanks to the doctors, nurses and other medical staff of Doctors Hospital of Manteca. They were competent and caring and did all that could be done for her. In addition they were considerate and kind to her family.
Viewing for Clara will be Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. at P. L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca, CA. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at Park View Cemetery, 3661 E. French Camp Road, Manteca. An online guest book is also available at www.plfryandson.com for condolences.
