Eleanor Elizabeth Milan, 90, born Dec. 4, 1918 in Oakland, California to Belinda and Elbert Griggs and comfortably passed Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009.

She was the oldest of 7 children. She married Peter Milan on Sept. 4, 1937. At the time of his passing last year they were married a month shy of 71 years. They lived their married life in Hayward and upon retiring moved to Manteca.

Eleanor worked in a factory until they started their family in 1941. She then became a homemaker raising 2 children and through the years was involved in the caring of many family members. She helped with her children’s and grandchildren’s school activities and loved being involved with family events.

Eleanor was very social and quite a storyteller who would entertain with many of her tales and silliness. She was the family’s historian and was the person to ask whenever they needed a date or a name or to clarify an event. 

Eleanor leaves behind her loving daughter Janet Calaway (Robert) of Livermore. Sister Leana Souza (Eddy) of Hayward Three grandchildren Ronny Milan, Rob Calaway (Naomi) and Lorri Gronley (Brad). She was also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Milan and son Ron Milan.

Visitation for will be Wednesday, Dec. 2, 4 to 7 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. Services will be Thursday, Dec. 3, 11 a.m. at P.L. Fry & Son. Committal is at East Union Cemetery. Remembrances can be made in Eleanor’s name to Hope Hospice, 6377 Clark Avenue Suite 100, Dublin, CA 94568.
