Ruby A. Deaton, 90, entered into rest on October 18, 2009 at Doctor’s Hospital of Manteca. She was born on September 6, 1919 in Ola, Arkansas to the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard & Faye Merritt.  She was preceded in death by one grandson Jeff Deaton and her husband Boyd Deaton. Ruby was a resident of Lathrop for 33 years.

Mrs. Deaton is survived by her loving sons; Leonard Deaton and his wife Margaret of Olympia, WA., Tom Deaton of Livermore, Jim Deaton and his wife Cathy of Marysville, and Wendell Deaton and his wife Nancy of Nevada. Her grandchildren are Wayne, Michael, Pamela, Terri, Traci, Lena, Evan, and Amanda. She was also blessed by 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby worked for Glass Containers Corporation in Hayward as a selector, retiring in 1974. She loved traveling with her late husband; traveling the states fishing and hunting in their motor home. After the passing of her beloved husband in 1991, Ruby joined the Lathrop Senior Center where she enjoyed her volunteer work at the greatly, involving herself with their Brown Bag program. She was her happiest when surrounded by her loving family. During her 90th birthday celebration in September she felt on top of the world; she felt the love of the beautiful legacy she and her husband built so many years ago of all their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as many extended family members. She loved quilting with her daughter-in-law Margaret making gorgeous blankets for family and friends. Ruby will be remembered as a simple lady who had a heart of gold. She will be missed.
