Dominating from the mound, powerful from the plate and alert on the base paths, Wyatt DeFrenchi formed a one-man wrecking crew for the Nationals on Thursday in an 11-1 mercy rule win over the Rangers for the Manteca Little League minor championship on the major-league diamond at Lincoln Park.

DeFrenchi (2 for 2, five RBI, home run, double, three runs) had an inside-the-park grand-slam home run in the third inning and ended the game in the fifth when his double was misplayed, allowing him to come all the way around the bases and score the mercy rule run to end the game at 11-1.

In 4 2/3 innings DeFrenchi struck out 12 – fanning the side twice – and allowing three hits and a run. He reached his pitch limit after striking out the first two Nationals batters of the fifth inning, giving way to Andrew DeFrenchi who struck out the next batter to end the frame.

The Nationals scored three runs in the fourth. Zack Anderson and Ezra Alvarado led off the inning with singles and came in on a triple by Timothy Davis. When that triple was misplayed on the throw back into the infield, Davis scored.

The Rangers scored their lone run on a bases-loaded walk in the fifth, plating Mateo Gomez. Isaac Acuna was 2 for 2 with a double for the Rangers.
