JV Buffs come back to edge Oakdale

Julian Moncada posted a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns Friday night to lead Manteca to a 24-21 come-from-behind victory in Valley Oak League junior varsity action.

Moncada tallied 151 all-purpose yards with nine carries for 96 yards and five receptions for 55 yards scoring on runs of 9 and 23 yards. Quinn Martinez (15 carries, 64 yards) and Ruben Moreno each scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and Preston Smith was 8 for 8 passing for 70 yards.

Luis Rosas led the Buffaloes defense with six tackles. Nikolas Garcia made five tackles, Johan Perengelli (forced fumble, fumble recovery) and Morena added four stops apiece and Martinez three.

 

Central Catholic 42, Sierra 6

Zak Willson threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Tali Vaipuna for the lone Timberwolves score. 

Willson was 8 of 16 passing for 120 yards with 41 yards on four carries and Vaipuna tallied 90 yards receiving on three catches.

Mario Juarez, Taylor Rowe and Cameron Diego all contributed to the Sierra offense.

Juarez, Evan Greenwood, Vaipuna and Joey Habibi led the Timberwolves defense with six tackles each.

Isaiah Guerrero (forced fumble), Hezekiah Griffin, Payton Robertson, Willson (forced fumble) and Caleb Love all contributed to the Sierra defense.  

 

Freshman

Oakdale 22, Manteca 19

The Mustangs managed a fourth-quarter score while keeping the Buffaloes off the board in the final period which forced a tie for the league championship between the two teams.

“It was a great opportunity to coach the young student athletes we had this year,” Manteca coach Seth Davis said. “A great staff and great athletes make head coaches look really good. These young men will go extremely far in life with this work ethic.”

Maava Tialavea (22 carries, 171 yards) scored touchdowns for Manteca on 3- and 8-yard runs. Cooper Chamberlain (three receptions, 49 yards) pulled in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Owen Gully (4 of 6 passing, 49 yards).

Logan Pool led the Buffaloes defense with nine tackles. Jhadis Lucky added six stops and Mateo Esparza five.
