Lathrop scored two touchdowns in the third period to break an 8-8 halftime tie and give the Spartans a 20-8 win over host Sierra on Thursday in non-league freshman action.
Lathrop’s Alex Smith (nine carries, 26 yards) scored a pair of touchdowns on a 2-yard, first quarter run and from 4 yards out in the third period. Jaylen Santos (11 carries, 56 yards) added the final Spartans score on a 10-yard run. Didier Lofaro was the workhorse for Lathrop with 97 yards on 17 carries.
Dario Joseph paced the Spartans defense with eight tackles followed by Joshua Talalele with four stops, and Noe Gonzalez with three. Santos added an interception.
Ozias Siga (three receptions, 39 yards scored the lone Timberwolves touchdown on a 23-yard catch from Jaysen Martinez (6 of 10 passing, 69 yards) in the second quarter.
East Union 26, Chavez 7
The Lancers scored in each quarter, with Max Abrew throwing two touchdown passes.
Abrew (12 of 22 passing, 154 yards) had touchdown throws of 49 yards to Gunnar Fay (four receptions, 70 yards) and six yards to Caden Miller. Adrian Sena (nine carries, 20 yards) got East Union on the board with a 1-yard run and Ryder Tompkins capped the scoring when he recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
Nathan Bettencourt paced the Lancers with 13 tackles and Jacob Ramirez added eight. Noah Germann and Tompkins contributed on defense.

Brody Carabello threw for two touchdowns and recovered a fumble for another to lead the Buffaloes.
Carabello (seven carries, 84 yards) was 4 of 9 passing for 46 yards with touchdown throws of 19 yards to Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz (two reception, 28 yards) and 26 yards to Leiland Riggleman who also ran in a score from 1 yard out.
Carabello’s fumble return for a score was 64 yards. He and Menchaca-Ortiz led the team with seven tackles apiece. Bode Hiatt added five stops, Brennen McMichael forced a fumble and Jayden Omadhebo grabbed an interception.
