Mary Sue Littlefield died peacefully on April 16, 2025, in San Luis Obispo, California, with family by her side. Sue was born in 1939 in Cushing, Oklahoma, but lived in Fairfax with her family. Sue met her future husband, Carl, in Fairfax, and they married in 1959. Not long after marrying, they moved to California and lived in Stockton and Manteca for 38 years before moving to San Luis Obispo.
Sue was a beloved kindergarten and first–grade teacher at Shasta Elementary School for many years and enjoyed a truly impactful career in the Manteca Unified School District.
Sue's family and friends were her whole world, as she was theirs. She was crazy about her grandsons and attended every activity and special occasion possible. They, in turn, absolutely adored their "Mor Mor." Sue was a dear sister to her siblings, Tom Tate and Cindy Ball. She was exceptionally close to Cindy and her daughters, Catlin and Whitney. They enjoyed many fun travel adventures together.
Sue was also a lovely and loyal friend to others, especially her close childhood friends in Oklahoma and many in Manteca with whom she stayed in touch for up to 80 years. Sue will be remembered as a spunky, fun–loving, exceptionally skilled seamstress who rarely passed up an opportunity to create gifts for others. She enjoyed sailing adventures with her husband and was a San Francisco Bay Pelican Association member for nearly 50 years.
If you knew Sue, she undoubtedly touched and enriched your life. If your paths did not cross, we hope these words help you understand what to look for in an exceptional example of humankindness.
Sue is survived by her children Carol Littlefield–Halfman and husband, Greg (San Luis Obispo); Eddy Littlefield and wife, Marjie (Siloam Springs, AR); Shelley Thesing and husband, Brian (Sunnyvale); her beloved grandchildren, Tate Halfman and wife, Abbie; Cole Halfman; Chase Thesing; Logan Thesing. Sue is also survived by her sister Cindy Ball, her two daughters, Catlin and Whitney, adopted granddaughter Meranda Kirby and husband Jackson, and a large extended family. Sue was preceded in death by her husband Carl Burns Littlefield, Jr.; parents Reuben and Marguerite Tate; brother Tom Tate; brother–in–law Terry Ball.
