Buffaloes pick up crosstown win over Lancers

The Manteca High sophomore volleyball team flexed its muscle Wednesday at Winter Gym in an impressive 25-6, 25-14 sweep over crosstown rival East Union.

Myklyn Balmut put in overtime at the stripe, turning in eight service points and three aces, while Mia Ramirez shined as well, turning in 13 points and six aces.

Jimi Guibor had six kills and three blocks, while Breanne Hatfield and Erin Kennedy turned in five kills apiece.

Jessica Reeder was a rock in the middle, setting up 22 teammates on assists.

Kristen Piasecki had six assists for the Lancers, and Alexis Steele had three kills.

Megan Bautista was good on a pair of aces, and Samantha Mendoza had a trio of kills.

Manteca heads to Sonora this afternoon.

Kayla Lamont had four assists in the Lancer loss.

Mariah Burrola and Jillian Costa turned in three kills each.

The Timberwolves rebounded from their first loss of the season with a resounding 25-20, 25-12 sweep of the Bulldogs Wednesday at home.

Gabby Olmo pulled the T’Wolves out of a big hole in Game 1 with nine service points (seven aces), and finished with a three hits and a kill, as well.

Alexis Davis (15 service points) had nine points in a row including four aces at one point, and Summer Wilson was singled out by head coach Julie Cannon for exceptional passing at crucial moments.

Sierra (2-1 VOL, 8-1 overall) hosts Oakdale tonight.
