Ripon scored the first 10 points Friday night behind Adriana Dorn’s nine-point service run, and the host Indians never looked back in a 25-17, 25-21, 25-14 sweep in Trans-Valley league girls volleyball action over Ripon Christian.

There was just one tie in the contest, and Ripon (3-0 TVL, 14-2 overall) never trailed, due in part to Dorn’s dominating performance with 19 digs, 17 kills and six aces. Dorn hammered the second set point home with a kill and brought the Indians to match point in the third with another kill.

“I felt great about tonight,” Dorn said. “We have been working really hard in practice, and I have been concentrating on my serving.”

Ripon’s Jorie Eskes added nine kills, and Ashlyn Malone eight.

“I think I had a better blocking game tonight than hitting,” Eskes said.

Alayna Sprinkle (four aces) was busy dishing out assists for the Indians with 28.

“It’s so fun just being able to see them go up and crush the ball,” Sprinkle said. “It’s a validating feeling.”

Kennedy Everhart (nine digs, three aces) and Olivia Neuman (five digs) rounded out the Ripon attack.

“They’re a very good team,” Knights coach Kayla Kootstra said. “They have some solid hitters, good defense and are well coached. We looked nervous, and it was like the game started too big for us, which is disappointing because I would argue there were points in all three sets where we played right with them.

“At times, we showed what we were capable of, but our consistency factor just wasn’t there and theirs was. We have to go back to the drawing board and figure out what to do before our next match.”

Haley Kootstra posted five blocks and six kills for Ripon Christian (1-2, 9-7). Tatum Sonke added 12 digs and Alanna Blanco 18 assists.

On Tuesday at 6 p.m. the Knights host Escalon and Ripon travels to Sonora.
