RIPON — The Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs don’t tip off until next week, but the postseason has already begun for Ripon.

The host Indians, fighting to grab a playoff spot in the final week of Trans Valley League play, defeated crosstown rival Ripon Christian 40-37 in overtime Tuesday thanks to the clutch play of center Lauren Feddersen and sophomore guard Kendra Contente.

Feddersen churned out six of her team-high 12 points in the overtime period, while Contente sank three of four free throws to help seal it.

“They stepped up big for us, and that was the difference in the game,” Ripon coach George Contente said. “Lauren also got some big rebounds for us.”

Skye Dominguez added 10 points for the Indians (5-4, 11-14 overall). Rachel Rodriguez and Kendra Contente finished with seven each.

Ripon is currently ranked 19th according to the section’s Division IV playoff power ratings but needs to crack the top 16 to advance. Ripon closes the regular season on the road against Escalon Thursday.

Ripon Christian (4-5, 10-12), meanwhile, has league champion Modesto Christian for the league finale. The Knights are 11th in Division V.
