STOCKTON — East Union’s Taylor Snaer brought home four gold medals from the Valley Oak League Trach and Field championships on Thursday and Manteca’s Zion Allen tallied three golds and a silver with his Buffaloes winning the boys VOL championship at Weston Ranch High School.
Snaer won the 100 meters (12:15), the 200 (25.60), the 400 (58.46) and was on the winning 4x400 relay team with Linda Medrano, April Duarte, Lauren Pablo (4:16.60).
“This feels good,” Snaer said. “It’s great to see all the hard work I put in pay off.
“And this was our first race together in the 4x400 and we won it.”
The top four finishers advance to the Division III championships next Tuesday and Thursday at Weston Ranch. Joining Snaer from the Lancers girls will be Medrano (second, 3200; third 800 and 1600); Leilani Rios (third, shot put); Jazmine Gutierrez (third, discus); Duarte (fourth, 800 and 1600) and Pablo (fourth, 300 hurdles).

Manteca’s Dylan Gulseth won the shot put (45 feet, 3 inches) and Joshua Martin won the pole vault (10-6). Also advancing from the Buffaloes boys will be Moncada (second, 100; third, 200); Brock Gross (second 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles); Alexander Chatham (second, discus); Justice Chase (second, triple jump; third, high jump; fourth, long jump); Ryan Inderbitzin (second, high jump; third, long jump); Arechiga (third, 100); Moncada (third, 200); Dario Rodriguez (third 800); Blake Gross (third, 300 hurdles; fourth 110 hurdles) and Robert Focundo (fourth, 300 hurdles).
East Union’s Cooper Freeman won the 1,600 (4:28.22) and 3,200 (10:12.02).
“I wanted to set a good pace the whole way,” Freeman said of his 3,200. “And try not to slow down.
“The 1,600 wasn’t really a highlight, but it got first place and I got to qualify for Divisionals.”
Cesar Salinas won the 400 (53.87) for the Lancers, Evan Cooper the 800 (2:05.39) and Cooper, Gerardo Cleto-Herrera, Cesar Salinas and Kainoa Ontai the 4x400 relay (3:32.23). Cleto-Herrera was second in the 200 and fourth in the 400; Alex Cuevas was second in the 800; Cooper was second in the 1,600 and Sebastian Arrizano fourth in the shot put.
Weston Ranch’s Galadriel Mellion won the shot put (42 feet, 8 inches) and discus (131-4).
“I did good,” Mellion said. “I didn’t do as well as I did last week but my spins felt great. I am just getting back to it.”
Manteca’s Alyson Schneider won the long jump (16-9). Also advancing from the Manteca girls are the second-place 4x100 relay team of Schneider, Caitlynn Wong, Camrenne Genilla and Taylor Thomas; Sienna Jones (second, 800 and 1600); Genilla (second, high jump; third, long jump); Rylan Steckler (second, pole vault) and Izabella Sanchez (second, triple jump; third, high jump); Karlie Spohn (third, 300 hurdles; fourth, 100 hurdles); Karina Beck (fourth shot put and discus) and the fourth-place 4x400 relay team of Spohn, Genilla, Jones and Aleah Melendez.
Sierra’s Jeontay Berry won the long jump (21-9). Dylan Burkett was second in the 400; Vincent Cruz third in the 110 hurdles; Amitaj Kandola third in the discus; Shomari McKnight third in the shot put and Joseph Mendez was fourth in the triple jump.
Alani Mullenix was second in the 100 for Sierra followed by Abby Chapman (second, 300 hurdles; third, long jump); Alex Chapman (third 100 hurdles, triple jump); the third-place 4x100 relay team of Macy Allen, Alani Mullenix, Ciara-Jene-Castro and Mia Lagunas; Mullenix (fourth, 200) and Lagunis (fourth, 400).
Namir Brown was third in the 400 for Weston Ranch and Kyle Smith fourth in the discus.
Manteca won the boys with 49 points and East Union was second with 34. East Union’s 28 points was second to Oakdale’s 49 in the girls and Manteca was third with 24.
“I am really excited for the boys,” Buffaloes coach P.J. Lyons said. “We wanted to double with the girls, but the girls got edged out by Oakdale early in the year and that has been a scar that we had to deal with and hoped someone would beat Oakdale but that didn’t happen.
“The varsity boys went undefeated and I don’t think the boys have won the VOL title since 2016.
We had a great group of kids. Zion Allen has been a big help and we have a freshman – Julian Moncada – who will take the crown from Zion when he leaves. We have a lot of juniors who are going to fill the ranks next year.”
