Manteca followed up a well-contested loss with its first victory of the season Thursday night at Winter Gym. The Buffaloes swept Patterson, 25-18, 25-22, 25-11.

On Wednesday, they were unable to finish off three close games at Ripon Christian, a small school with big expectations every year. Manteca was also swept in its Foundation Game at West of Tracy on Tuesday.

“Last night was kind of that first-match (jitters) type of thing,” Manteca coach Kevin Bolding said. “It was a good match against a good team and we learned a lot and built off of that. I think we were also a little more relaxed getting to play one at home.

“Hopefully we can keep learning quickly because we have some tough ones coming up.”

Standout middle blocker Alyssa Burch anchored the Buffaloes with nine kills and three blocks. Morgan Miramontes and Mildred Perez rapped out five kills apiece with Beth Aschenbrenner handing out 25 assists. Summer Kirby paced the back row with eight digs, and Melissa Hansen finished with seven.

Manteca (1-1) travels to Tracy next Tuesday.
