The East Union girls volleyball team knocked off one of the defending Valley Oak League co-champions on Wednesday, edging past visiting Oakdale 27-25, 21-25, 27-25, 7-25, 15-11.
Camille Christensen was clutch for the Lancers (1-1 VOL, 7-4 overall) coming up with six service points, two kills and two digs all in the deciding fifth set.
Lucija Dayeh dished out 16 assists. Lilyan Frye served 15 points and four aces.
East Union continues league play Monday against visiting Patterson.
East Union 3, Chavez 0
The Lancers followed a long night with a short trip to Stockton on Thursday, sweeping Chavez, 25-7, 25-11, 25-12.
Dayeh anchored the attack with 11 assists and seven kills. Taylor Rios crushed six kills to go with two digs. Jedah Haywood added four kills. Kennedy McCleod pitched in with three kills and two solo blocks.
Lathrop 3, Linden 0
Siliana Fa’ataualofa produced 14 kills, three blocks and four digs, as Lathrop (9-3) escaped Linden (7-7) with a 25-8, 25-20, 25-22 sweep.
Sariah Hilton tallied 29 assists, seven digs and three aces. Jadore Dixon posted a team-high 11 digs.
Erin Chunn (five kills, two aces, three digs), Malia Fa’ataualofa (five kills, three aces, block), Breanna Wiseman (four kills, three blocks) and Irshbir Bisla (three kills) were other front-row contributors.
Big Valley Christian 3, River Islands 2
The Riptide (2-8) took a heartbreaker Thursday in Modesto, as Big Valley (4-8) came back to win 11-25, 20-25, 25-13, 25-20, 15-13.
Corley Simoni racked up 14 kills and 16 assists. Makaylah Kai Samoranos added five kills and 15 assists. Leighann Ruiz contributed 12 kills and three blocks. Niamae Devera chipped in with 11 kills.
GIRLS GOLF
Ripon 157, Hilmar 170
Cameron Seefeldt shot an even-par 31 at Ripon Golf Club in the Trans Valley League win for Ripon.
Brynn Daley added a 40, while Grace Ortmann and Cailyn Young each had a 43.
JV girls volleyball
Oakdale 2, East Union 1
East Union (0-2 VOL, 2-4 overall) lost the league match on Wednesday, 25-20, 21-25, 10-15.
Janelle Lopez tallied three kills and two blocks, Julia Gonzalez had two kills and one block and Norah Warsno picked up seven digs.
East Union 2, Chavez 0
Addie Souza served the entire opening set for East Union, which swept 25-0, 25-7.
Souza had nine aces during that wire-to-wire service run, then added another 10 points in the second set.
Chloe Owen contributed two kills and four assists.
Lathrop 2, Linden 1
The Spartans held on for the 25-6, 14-25, 15-12 victory.
Zakia Booker led them with six kills, two solo blocks, four digs and three aces. Ne’Myah Belion (five kills, four digs), Elsa Johnson (two kills, two aces) and Aisha Wiseman (three kills, two blocks) were other top producers.
Arianna Sheel collected seven digs, while Cassidy Fa’ali’i distributed 15 assists to go with four digs and three aces.
Frosh girls volleyball
Oakdale 2, East Union 1
The Lancers (1-1VOL, 5-1 overall) took their first defeat on Wednesday, 26-24, 23-25, 11-15.
Setter Rosa Romero had a productive match with eight assists, four kills and eight service points. Brooklyn Fernandez contributed four kills, three aces and eight points. Amelia Behler accumulated four kills, four blocks, six service points and four aces.
East Union 2, Chavez 0
Romero fired 11 service points, eight of them for aces and handed out five assists, as the Lancers (6-1) rolled to the 25-11, 25-9 sweep on Thursday.
Jordyn Ballou contributed four kills, nine points, six aces and a solo block. Paisley Greer added four kills.
Lathrop 2, Linden 0
Lathrop fended off a late charge for the 25-18, 26-24 sweep.
Ah’Marae Dansby doled out eight service aces. Jessica Reff handed out seven assists. Kyla Swan contributed four kills and two digs. Jasmeet Bhuee had three kills, while Liona Lauaki chipped in two kills and two aces. Jazmine Castaneda added four digs and two aces.
