ROUNDUP: Lancers upset defending VOL volleyball champion

East Union’s girls volleyball team showed on Thursday that it still has some say in the Valley Oak League championship race, even if it’s out of the running.

The Lancers hosted defending titlist Central Catholic and pulled off the 28-26, 25-21, 8-25, 25-23 upset.

The Raiders (5-3 VOL, 7-10 overall) came into the match with one more loss than Oakdale and Manteca, but their chances of repeating took a hit with the defeat.

Setter Lily Grove guided the offense, finishing with 12 assists, 10 service points, three aces and five digs. LuLu Dayeh added nine assists and eight service points.

Jedah Haywood was a force up front, finishing with 12 kills and two blocks. Jocelyn Gonzalez chimed in with seven points and four digs.

East Union (2-6, 7-16 overall) next welcomes Oakdale on Thursday, Oct. 9.

 

Ripon Christian 3, Hilmar 0

The Knights (5-2 Trans Valley League, 13-7 overall) fended off a late push from visiting Hilmar (2-5, 16-10) to complete the sweep, 25-14, 25-19, 29-27.

Page Van Hofwegen and Brynn Bohn powered the attack with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Alanna Blanco registered 29 assists and five aces. Lauren Mouw led the defense with 14 digs.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 160, Ripon Christian 176

The Indians completed the season sweep of Ripon Christian at Ripon Golf Club.

They were spearheaded by sophomore Cameron Seefeldt, who carded a 4-over-par 35. Eve Toledo and Cailyn Young each contributed a 41, and Grace Ortmann added a 43.

Reece Drost turned in a 41 for Ripon Christian. Sophia Cheney, Brookelynn Giest and Kara Koolhaas each chipped in with a 45.

 

Frosh girls volleyball

Central Catholic 2, East Union 1

The Lancers dropped a tough 24-26, 25-23, 9-15 VOL defeat.

Addie Souza led them with 10 kills and nine digs. Jesabel Teran and Janelle Lopez pitched in nine and seven kills, respectively. Macy Camarena collected 23 digs, and setter Sophia Quezada had 18 assists.
