ROUNDUP: RC boys volleyball opens with road sweep of Livingston

 Ripon Christian’s two-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV boys volleyball team played its first game of the season on Tuesday, taking care of Livingston on the road, 25-12, 25-19, 25-22.

The Wolves (7-2) threatened to extend the match with a 21-18 lead in the third set, but Ripon Christian responded with a 7-1 run. Joel Hendricks ended the match with a service run.

He helped lead the offense with 26 assists and three aces, while fellow setter Preston Zuidervaart had 18 assists to go with three kills and three blocks.

Mason Tameling added 14 kills and four aces. Daniel Lambdin and Isaiah Vander Woude racked up seven and five kills, respectively. Zach Varni collected five digs.

The Knights will face Valley Oak League co-champion Sierra on the road today.

Ripon 3, Orestimba 0

After two dominant sets, the Indians (2-3) held on to win the non-league match at home, 25-8, 25-11, 26-24.
Marquell Marshall amassed 17 service points, nine going for aces. Martin Raygoza racked up 17 assists and 12 service points. Alex Alvarellos and Trent Olmo hammered eight and six kills, respectively.

Anthony Gomez chipped in 11 assists, and Jesse Ochoa served 15 points.

Lathrop 3, Ceres 0

The Spartans (2-2) opened Western Athletic Conference play with a one-sided 25-5, 25-15, 25-16 home victory.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i spearheaded the attack with 14 kills and seven digs. Marco Palomares added 10 kills, eight digs and five aces. Peter Respicio pitched in five kills.

Setter Alexander Vere handed out 33 assists and had seven digs. Charles Reyes chimed in with 12 digs and four aces.


St. Mary’s 3, Manteca 0

In Stockton, Manteca (4-1) took its first loss of the season, 23-25, 17-25, 21-25.

Jesus Gomez and Aidan Patton led the offense with seven and six kills, respectively. Garrison Reis added four kills, and Marc Bondoc dished out 18 assists.


SOFTBALL

East Union 4, Lodi 1

The Lancers (4-1) plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on to win their Rainbow Tournament opener.

Mikayla Simpson pitched all five innings, registering seven strikeouts while giving up five hits. Makenzie Nevis (triple, RBI) and Dillan Blevins (double) both went 2 for 2 to lead the offense. Bella Cooper added a double and a run. Simpson helped herself with an RBI hit and a run.


East Union 12, Central Valley 1

Lily Pickering took her turn in the circle in the nightcap, notching a two-hitter in five innings. She also clobbered a three-run homer.

Leah Altstadt went 3 for 3 with two runs. Juelicia Roman contributed two runs in a 2-for-3 effort. Cooper scored three runs and drove in two more.

The Lancers cap the Rainbow Tournament with games against Enochs, Beyer and Paterson on Friday.


Ripon 8, Sonora 0

Jaycee Wilmshurst, Alana Hernandez and Izabelle Spurzem each belted a double to get the Indians (3-0) rolling with a two-run first inning.

That was all the run support Kharime Caratachea would need, as she fired 12 strikeouts in a three-hitter.

Wilmshurst finished with two doubles, going 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Hernandez went 3 for 4, and Spurzem went 2 for 3. Clara Townsend scored twice.


Lathrop 9, Edison 2

The Spartans have won their first three games of the season, getting another complete-game gem from pitcher Maci DeCosta. She scattered five hits while striking out 11.

Tatianna Lopez sparked the attack, going 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Elizabeth Rodriguez contributed an RBI single and a run.


BOYS TENNIS

Manteca 5, Kimball 4

Michael Levchenko outlasted Jashanpreet Nagra 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 to win the No. 5 singles match, and it helped the visiting Buffaloes prevail in the Valley Oak League opener in Tracy.

Reigning singles champ Yok Chai Ma swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Michael Osanna (6-4, 6–3) and Ivan Barajas (6-2, 6-1) won at No. 2 and 3, respectively.

Landon Butler and Declan Edwards took the No. 1 doubles match, 6-3, 6-2.


JV volleyball

Ripon 2, Orestimba 0

Ripon coasted 259, 25-14 behind Gavin Marlow’s eight kills.

Cooper Morino tallied 11 service points and four aces. Josiah Aflleje distributed 10 assists.


Lathrop 2, Ceres 0

Cayden Phaing (block, ace) and Gurmukh Singh (five aces) blasted five kills apiece to lead Lathrop’s 25-22, 25-13 win.

Setter Mario Luna registered 14 assists and two aces. Josh Ramirez anchored the back row with eight digs.


Manteca 2, St. Mary’s 0

Donovan Morris swatted eight kills as Manteca came away with the 25-20, 27-25 triumph.

Hayden Silva set 17 assists, while Logan Romriell racked up 18 digs.


JV softball

Edison 19, Lathrop 12

Aaliyah Roberts (RBI) and Alina Ledezma scored three runs apiece for Lathrop.

Taylor Rios and Cerreny Perez each contributed an RBI hit.
