ROUNDUP: Ripon Christian volleyball breezes past Orestimba in 3 sets

The Ripon Christian girls volleyball team made quick work of visiting Orestimba on Thursday in a 25-11, 25-11, 25-7 Trans Valley League sweep.

Brynn Bohn led the Knights (3-2, 10-7 overall) with eight kills and five aces. Paige Van Hofwegen paced the attack with 10 kills, and setter Alanna Blanco tallied 27 assists. Tatum Sonke anchored the defense with nine digs.

Ripon Christian ends the first half of its league schedule next Tuesday at second-place Sonora.

 

FLAG FOOTBALL

Sierra 53, Mountain House 0

Peyton Duarte scored three touchdowns, Margeil Garcia recorded four quarterback sacks, and the rest of the defense picked off five passes in the Timberwolves’ lopsided Valley Oak League win at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.

Maitland Kohoutek (5-of-8, 104 yards, three TDs) and Tessa Zalunardo (8-of-9, 112 yards, two TDs) split time behind center and passed efficiently. Zhanee Sutton racked up 63 yards and a touchdown on three carries. Priya Dhaliwal caught six passes for 141 yards and two scores. Duarte added two receiving touchdowns, and Felisa Cruz-Olenhouse had one.

Mia Aguirre and Duarte each returned interceptions for touchdowns. Kiley O’Neill, Cruz-Olenhouse and Kohoutek each contributed an interception.

Sierra (4-1 VOL, 7-5 overall) play rival Manteca twice next week starting on Tuesday at home.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Lathrop 250, Pacheco 271

Low medalist Kate Albisu finished 15-over-par 42 to lead the Spartans to the Western Athletic Conference win at St. Stanislaus Golf Course.

Ashley Abon added the runner-up score of 45 and was followed by Sneha Masih’s 51, Rachael Rani’s 53 and Elyanna Fernandez’s 59.

Bella Preciado paced Pacheco with a 50. 

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Patterson 6, Sierra 3

Host Patterson eked out three wins in third sets to prevail in the VOL dual match.

Evelin Garcia earned the lone singles victory for Sierra (2-4), fending off Aviannah Farfan, 6-3, 7-6 (2).

The Timberwolves’ No. 2 doubles team of Janessa Felix and Bhavika Karthikeyan knocked off Miranda Marron and Haley Dang, 6-1, 6-3. No. 3 Melissa Castillo and Anjana Barath defeated Isabella Orozco and Katelyn Chavez, 6-4, 6-4.

 

Frosh girls volleyball

East Union 2, Sierra 0

Jasabel Teran tallied five kills, four aces and three digs for the triumphant Lancers at Dalben Center.

Sophia Quezada handed out nine assists to go with three aces. Janelle Lopez (four kills, three aces, two blocks), Teah Galvez (four aces, three digs), Addie Souza (three kills, two aces) and Regina Villelalara (three kills, three aces, two blocks) contributed in East Union’s balanced effort.
