East Union senior Taylor Snaer placed second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III finals Thursday at Lincoln High of Placer.
She is part of a local contingent that will compete in the SJS Masters meet next week at Davis Sr. The top six placers and at-large qualifiers out of the Division III meet advance.
It took personal-record performances from the competition to top Snaer in the finals. She finished the 100 in 12.12 seconds and was edged by West Park sophomore Aniya Martin (12.04). In the 200, Snaer clocked a 24.81 and was the runner-up to Christian Brothers’ Sydnie Watkins (24.71).
Fellow Lancers joining Snaer at Masters next week are all underclassmen. Sophomore Lancer Jarely Ortiz finished sixth in the 800 with a PR of 2 minutes, 25.65 seconds, while the boys 4x100 took sixth in 43.89. The relay quartet consists of Jackson Fay, Cesar Salinas, Anthony Morales and J.P. Abrew.
Manteca sophomore Julian Moncada is the lone four-event qualifier from Manteca Unified schools in the Division III meet. He blazed to new personal-best times while placing second in the 100 (10.82) and third in the 200 (22.21).
Moncada is also a member of the Buffaloes’ third-place 4x100 and fifth-place 4x400 relays. Kaden MacDannald, Ramon Arechiga and Roberto Facuno joined him for the 4x100. Ramon Arechiga, Isaiah Arechiga and Dario Rodriguez are on the 4x400.
Also advancing to Masters for Manteca are Jade Ikharo (triple jump), Genesis Mailangi (shot put) and Alijah Cota (discus), who punched their tickets Tuesday in field events.
Shomari McKnight led Sierra with a second-place finish in the shot put, topping out at 47 feet, 9 ¼ inches. Teammate Jax Ballard is also advancing, as he turned in the sixth-place toss of 45-07.
Sierra has a pair of sophomore long jumpers moving on, and both took sixth with personal-best marks. Joseph Habibi’s best jump measured out at 20 feet even, and in the girls competition, Olivia Knott PR’d at 15-08 ½.
Abigail Chapman is Masters bound in two events. The junior took fifth in the 300 hurdles (47.39), and she teamed with Janessa Barnes, Aileen Montero and Mia Lagunas on the sixth-place mile relay (4:12.00).
Sierra’s 4x800 team of Brendan Alson, Omar Ayala, Tristan Crowe, Jovan Sangha is also running in the Masters meet after qualifying on Tuesday.
In the team competition, Christian Brothers’ girls and Vanden’s boys are the SJS Division III champions.
The Masters meet takes place May 19 and 20. The top performers from there earn spots in the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships on May 26-27 at Buchanan High of Clovis.

CIF State Championships
Ripon sophomore Brooklyn Goeckeritz became the first student at her school to compete at the state meet.
She placed 14th out of 28 with a score of 446.10 at Clovis West. Isabella Chen of Cypress is the state champ with a new meet record 546.95 points.
SOFTBALL
Ripon Christian 11, Delhi 1 (5)
The Knights (8-6 Southern Athletic League, 10-11 overall) ended their season on a high note. They broke it open with an eight-run rally in the bottom of the third inning.
Kailee Alejandre led the barrage, going 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Shelby Terra contributed a triple and two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Teagan Chapman rung up five strikeouts in three innings. Terra threw the final two innings in the combined one-hitter.
