Ripon High had a chance Tuesday of clinching the Trans-Valley League title.

But Hilmar sidetracked those plans with a 1-0 win at Stouffer Field.

"This is a longstanding rivalry," said Indians coach Bryce Perkins of the Yellowjackets. "We bring the best out of them — they bring the best out of us."

The only goal of the game occurred at eight-minute mark on a header off of a corner kick.

This was just the second goal yielded by Ripon in TVL play.

The Indians (7-1 TVL, 12-8-1) hold a one-point differential over Hilmar (7-1, 17-5-2), which lost 3-1 to Ripon during that Jan. 11 meeting.

In a tough and physical battle, the Indians actually had more shots on goal (18-9) than that of the Yellowjackets, who received a stellar effort from goalie Kayden Elston.

She had 10 saves in this rivalry clash.

Ripon goal keeper Ellena Parenti collected seven saves. She along with Kayla Agbayani and Kaya Whittaker were praised by Perkins for their play on defense.

Late in the game, the Indians had several opportunities to tie up the game.

Olivia Maragos came close to scoring on a breakaway followed by Katie Rhones' near-miss off a corner kick.

The loss to Hilmar snapped the Indians' six-game win streak.

Ripon will host Escalon on Thursday for Senior Night.

Perkins is confident his team can capture these final two TVL games in pursuit of the league crown.
