WRESTLING: 3 grapplers earn berths to state tourney

STOCKTON — After the first day Friday in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Wrestling Championships at the Stockton Arena, three local wrestlers are headed for the state championships in Bakersfield next week and five more are within a match or two of joining them.
Lathrop’s Janida Garcia (121 pounds), Ripon’s Katelynn Cardoza (143) and Sierra’s Alexa Garcia (189) made their way into the girls semifinals, and as a result are guaranteed a Top 6 finish with punches their ticket to state.
Ripon’s Alyssa Oliver (116), Katelynn Cardoza (143) and Sierra’s Cami Jarmon are in the girls consolation bracket, and as such need to win their first match to place in the Top 6.
On the boys side, East Union’s Tyler Diaz (138), Joe Luna (145), Manteca’s Dominik Neuharth (195) and Sierra’s Manny Zavala (285) are all in consolation, and they need to win their first two matches to qualify for state.
Competition begins this morning at 9 at the Stockton Arena.
