SANTA CLARA (AP) — Defender Ramiro Corrales scored his first two goals of the season, both on free kicks in the second half, and the San Jose Earthquakes beat Chivas USA 4-0 Sunday night.

Defender Victor Bernardez scored on a free kick early in the game, and midfielder Simon Dawkins added a goal from close range late in the first half for San Jose (16-6-5). The Earthquakes moved back into sole possession of the MLS lead with 53 points — three ahead of Sporting Kansas City.

Corrales' second goal in the 82nd minute was the Earthquakes' MLS-leading 56th, and eclipsed their previous franchise record of 55 set in 1997.

San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

Bernardez put San Jose ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute when he blasted a 30-yard free kick past traffic in front of the goal and just inside the left post, beating Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy. It was Bernardez' second goal of the season.

The Earthquakes made it 2-0 in the 16th minute on Dawkins' goal. Marvin Chavez threaded a pass from the right side to Chris Wondolowski in the middle, and Wondolowski sent the ball ahead to Dawkins, who did the rest. Dawkins, who scored two goals last week in a victory over Colorado, now has seven for the season.

Corrales made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute on a free kick. From 23 yards out, he launched a shot over a wall of Chivas players and just inside the right post, in front of a diving Kennedy. He scored again 10 minutes later on a long free kick, launching a high shot inside the left post.

The Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak at Buck Shaw Stadium to 15 games, dating to last season. Their only home loss this season was at AT&T Park in San Francisco, 1-0 to Houston on March 17.

Chivas (7-11-7) had a handful of solid scoring chances in the first half, but Busch stopped them all. In the 14th minute, Chivas nearly capitalized after a bad Earthquakes pass set up a breakaway, but Busch came out high to block Juan Agudelo's shot.
