MORGAN HILL — The Manteca Area Soccer League won its first and only Founders’ Cup championship in 1999.

The under-12 girls Arsenal celebrated the 10-year anniversary by bringing home the second.

Arsenal, which will be honored by the City Council during the Jan. 19 meeting for its accomplishment, capped its terrific season with a 2-1 victory over the Clovis Rockstars Sunday at Morgan Hill Soccer Complex.

The team came into the California Youth Soccer Association Division IV Founders’ Cup tournament riding high off the momentum mounted from winning the MASL and Inter-City championships.

Manteca opened with a 3-0 drubbing of Madera on Dec. 13, then handed Antioch its first loss of the season with a 6-0 blowout. The Arsenal earned the No. 1 seed of the quarterfinal round after thumping the Danville Mustangs 3-0 for its third straight clean sheet.
Arsenal had to go through a gauntlet of Clovis squads after the preliminary rounds.

Manteca edged the first Clovis-based team 1-0 before squeaking out a 2-1 victory in an overtime thriller against the Clovis Blue Thunder.
