Dozens of racers and families packed the BMX track at Spreckels Park in Manteca this past Sunday.

There was some great race action, as TD Rogers of Manteca took the early lead in the 8-year-old Novice Main Event, but had a slight bobble to allow Broc Bettencourt of Modesto to power around in the second turn and hold on for the win.

The girls combined their two classes, and Manteca’s Meghan Matthews won both qualifying rounds and edged out Ripon’s Samantha Hall in the Main Event for another victory.

Races are held on Sundays. Signup and practice times are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with racing starting as soon as possible. ABA BMX membership information is available on race day.

The track is located at Spreckels Avenue, cross street Moffat Blvd. Admission is free for spectators, and there is a $10 entry fee for racing. Helmet, long sleeves, pants and a BMX or mountain-style bicycle are required to compete. Loaner equipment is available at the track.
