Clear skies and a perfect track surface greeted racers from all over the area on Sunday at Manteca’s Spreckels Park BMX.

The track has been drawing some of the top racers in the nation recently.  Elite Pro Joey Bradford, South African Champion Gavin Lubbe, and Manteca’s own two-time National Series Champion Josh Oie have been spotted out on the course training for the upcoming Grand National Finals in Oklahoma later this month.

In race action, Escalon’s Faye Hernandez made an impressive run during the 6-year-old girls race, winning all three qualifying rounds and taking home a first place award for the day.

The 6-year-old Intermediate and Expert boys put on a great show, combining their motos.  Manteca locals Semaj Moore took home the Intermediate win, and Dominic Duran brought home the expert class prize after a main-event mishap took out Lake Tahoe’s Kai Morgan, who had been dominating the qualifying rounds.

Races are held on Sundays. Signup and practice times are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with racing starting as soon as possible. ABA BMX membership information is available on race day.

The track is located at Spreckels Avenue, cross street Moffat Blvd.  Admission is free for spectators, and there is a $10 entry fee for racing.  Helmet, long sleeves, pants and a BMX or mountain-style bicycle are required to compete. Loaner equipment is available at the track.
