BELMONT — After cruising to three consecutive victories, outscoring their opponents 13- 1, the Manteca Futbol Club’s under-19 Extreme couldn’t earn a bid in the Soccer By The Bay Tournament championship, settling for a third-place finish over the weekend.

The Extreme opened with a 1-0 win over the Sacramento Nor Cal Elite, using a Stephanee Sabala goal to open tournament play in the win column. The Montclair Clippers were the next victim, falling to the Extreme 4-1.

Even with the Extreme dominating the Clippers on every facet, their only goal came via a direct kick, the Clippers lone goal proved to be costly for the Extreme. Lexi Ziakas scored her first goal of the tournament and Sabala got loose for a hat-trick, connecting on assists from Yesenia Rodriguez and two from Ziakas.

The Extreme continued to roll against the WCC FCA Legacy, demolishing them 8-0 only to learn that their unblemished 3-0 mark would not be enough to get them to the tournament’s title game. ReAnna Schmitt connected on a hat-trick, while Kenisha Gathron, Adrianna Villasenor, Deandra Virgen and Sabala all added one.

The Extreme did not lose focus in their third-place contest, outlasting the Clippers again by a 1-0 score. Sabala nailed the game’s only goal, connecting on an assist from Ziakas. The Extreme’s third place finish is the club’s fifth consecutive year placing in the competition, earning a first, a pair of seconds and now a pair of thirds.

Vacaville’s The Crew walked away as tournament champions, taking the title with a 9-8 win on penalty kicks against Castro Valley United.
