Tyler Wentworth and Shelby Kessler took home first-place medals after besting the competition Wednesday at the Manteca Park Golf Course’s annual junior golf clinic.
The Manteca Park Golf Course hosted its second of three open junior tournaments of the year. The last one is slated for September.
“We actually do this three times a year, but this was our main (tournament),” said Dennis Wells, East Union’s golf head coach who helped orchestrate the clinic for the last decade.
The clinic included four lessons, capped off with a chipping and putting competition which awarded kids their medals of achievement.
Isabella Mendez took second and Taylor Reed third. John Michael finished third place as well, while Isabella Rios and Lilly Valles earned silver.
“This has been going on for 20 years, and I’ve been doing it for 10,” Wells added. “And we have to thank Alan Thomas. He really pushes them to do all these junior clinics, and he’s the one that really makes it possible.
“It was a great turnout. We take about 22 kids at the max and the kids had a great time. We had a good group of kids.”
Youth who can participate in the next month’s clinic ($35 registration) can range from ages five through 17. The kids were also separated by ability, not age.
