Nick Trout, a 2007 graduate of Manteca High, won his second NCAA Division II football championship.

His University of Minnesota Duluth team defeated Delta State, 20-17, in the championship game played in Florence, Ala.

Trout plays on special teams as a long snapper for field goals, extra point kicks, and punts. At MHS, he was all-Valley Oak League at tight end and defensive tackle.

Trout also played on the Buffaloes’ 2006 section championship team.

A senior, he’s listed at 6-2, 240 pounds. Trout is majoring in exercise science.

He picked up his second D-2 title ring in three years. In 2008, Minnesota Duluth defeated Northern Missouri State in the title game, 21-14.

Trout, who also went to Delta College, sat out a year at Minnesota Duluth as a red shirt. In his time there, his team lost just two games. During both of the championship years, they were a perfect 15-0. Last year, Minnesota Duluth lost twice.
