VALLEY SPRINGS — Northgate took advantage of multiple Linden miscues and laced four hits to put up seven first-inning runs Monday in a 14-4 mercy rule consolation final win in the Section 6 Little League 9-10 Year-Old All-Star Tournament at Duke Powers Field.

Northgate eliminated Linden and now moves to the championship round this afternoon at 5 to face Hoover-Tyler of Stockton. A Hoover-Tyler win ends the tournament,  and a Northgate win forces a winner-take-all game on Wednesday.

Willy Segura (3 for 4, double, three RBI, three runs) and Nolan Calmes (2 for 3, three RBI, run) each had an RBI double in the first frame, and Northgate batted around with Segura adding another RBI on a single and Benny Slaughter also had an RBI single.

Pitching fell apart for Linden in the third inning with the first seven Northgate batters reaching base in a four-run third and the four of the first five reaching in a three-run fourth. Linden walked seven combined in those two innings.

Segura and Luke Weaver each had an RBI single in the third and in the fourth Calmes had an RBI double and Mitch Lill an RBI single.

Leadoff batter Ryan Vanarsdell reached base three times – once on a hit and twice on errors – scoring twice and No. 2 batter Carlos Alvarez walked four times, scoring three runs.

Weaver pitched the first two innings and was victimized by two first-inning errors that led to a Linden run. Avery Flores pitched the third for Northgate and gave up two runs behind an error and another error lead to Linden’s last run in the fourth when Slaughter took the hill, striking out two.
