Sandoval, Whiting lead Quakes to win over Ports

RANCHO CUCAMONGA (AP) — Ariel Sandoval hit a run-scoring double in the seventh inning, and Brant Whiting hit a two-run home run and had four hits as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes defeated the Stockton Ports 12-10 on Tuesday. With the victory, the Quakes swept the three-game series.
The double by Sandoval, part of a two-run inning, gave the Quakes an 11-10 lead before Brandon Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
Stockton missed a scoring opportunity in the eighth, when Mikey White flew out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Michael Boyle (4-1) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Miguel Romero (0-1) took the loss in the California League game. Andrew Istler retired the side in order for his ninth save of the season.
Eli White doubled and singled three times, scoring three runs for the Ports. Luis Barrera homered and singled twice, driving in three runs.
