Vinny Diaz led the Manteca Jr. Buffaloes to a 46-12 varsity win over the Lathrop Jr. Spartans in Central Valley Youth Football and Cheer playoff action at Weston Ranch High School.
Diaz (28 carries, 194 yards) scored on runs of 4, 5 and 13 yards. John Ellis (five carries, 31 yards) scored on a 1-yard run, Israel Juarez added a 2-yard touchdown run and Navi Murillo returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown. Murillo posted 30 yards on five carries, and Brach Carabello added 50 passing yards.
Kristian Miranda and Aizen English tallied five tackles each with five apiece for Murillo, Grant Catalano and Ethan Bonderer.
Junior varsity
Jr. Buffaloes 20, Ceres Jr. Bulldogs 8
Trailing 8-6 going into the third period, Manteca scored 14 points for the come-from-behind win.
Jayden Jordan (nine carries, 87 yards) got the Buffaloes scoring started on a 45-yard run, Quinnie Dunbar (nine carries, 71 rushing yards; three receptions, 38 yards) gave Manteca the lead with a 25-yard touchdown run and Gabriel Torres capped the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run. Dennis Johnson tallied 22 yards on four receptions and 61 yards on two kickoff returns. A.J. Haines chipped in 68 yards on eight completions.
Manteca’s Adrian Reyes-Echeverria made six tackles, Gabriel Torres five, Blake Esteves four and Jordan, Dunbar, and Jackob Husband three apiece.
Rookies
Jr. Buffaloes 31, Mudville Outlaws 7
Manteca’s Jeremiah Williams and Jeremiah Talavera each scored a pair of touchdowns.
Williams (16 carries, 158 yards) scored on runs of 30 and 41 yards and Talavera added 4- and 9-yard scoring runs on quarterback keepers. Jessy Arceo (12 carries, 164 yards) rounded out the Buffaloes scoring on a 75-yard touchdown run.
Manteca’s Gabriel Hernandez (three fumble recoveries), Gilbert Maldonado (forced fumble, fumble recovery) and Michael Somera tallied five tackles apiece, Tiger Singh four and Jessy Arceo Jeremiah Williams (fumble recovery for 15-yard return) with three tackles each.

Manteca’s Brixxton Fryer ran wild with five touchdowns.
Fryer (12 carries, 259 yards) scored on runs of 11, 16, 19, 25 and 70 yards. Jace Texeira hit Tate Gallardo with a 50-yard touchdown pass, Carter Louis (six carries, 57 yards) scored on a 9-yard run and Dayson Powell’s 7-yard touchdown run was set up by Malachi Wright’s 40-yard interception return. Roberto Jauregui chipped in 19 receiving yards.
Jose Cortez Jr. paced the Buffaloes with five tackles, Carter Louis four and Tate Gallardo and Texeira three each. Easton Franco and Angelo Lopez both contributed to the defense.

Ripon Knights junior novice 36, Salida 0
Ripon’s Gil Rangel scored four touchdowns in opening-round playoff action.
Rangel gained 184 yards on eight carries. Ben Holfman (two carries, 40 yards) scored a touchdown, Grayson Campbell added 35 yards on five carries and Mac Ward chipped in 20 yards on three carries.
Holfman (interception) and Mack Ward posted six tackles apiece, Campbell and Malachi Clayton four apiece and Nicolas Rangel and Gunnar Gorbunoff three apiece. Jackie Cardoza, Walter De Jong, Maverick Johnson, Hudson Browne, Gil Rangel and Hunter Camera all contributed to the defense.
