Since 2007 the Manteca-based business has grown into a steady wholesale supplier of home-style pies – coming together after John Burgess took over the business from a friend and used his connections gained through his family’s Jack Tone Road fruit stand to help establish the brand.
Since then he has transformed it from a boutique bakery into a wholesale outlet that supplies dozens of businesses throughout San Joaquin, Merced, Stanislaus and Contra Costa counties.
And there’s a reason that the company has become so successful.
While larger pie companies – most of them corporately owned chain outfits – exist, The Pie Company became the first in Northern California to offer hand-made pies on a scale large enough to supply independent businesses with their products. And while their offerings run the gamut from light summertime favorites to heavier fall staples, the turning of the weather almost always signifies the busiest season of the year for the company that caters to families who want something fresh and something local to serve to their out-of-town guests for the holidays.
What better way to do that than with a homemade pumpkin or apple pie?
Initially offered at the family fruit stand on the corner of Jack Tone Road and Highway 120, The Pie Company has since expanded into stores throughout the region including locations in Lockeford, Merced, Escalon, Ripon, Lodi and Stockton as well as Fresno, Stanislaus and Contra Costa counties.
