Nat Bolden and his State of Mind Jazz and Blues Band have made a name for themselves with regular monthly performances at San Francisco’s famed Lou’s Pier 47 Restaurant and Blues Club.

And now Bolden is hoping to put Manteca on his list of regular stops.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, Bolden and his band will headline a Blues Revue at Chez Shari that he hopes will be start of a regular monthly series – featuring R&B singers A. King of Stockton and Karla Williams of Tracy who will spell Bolden with intermission performances.

Tickets – which are $8 in advance and $10 at the door – are available for purchase at Chez Shari from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The restaurant is situated upstairs at the Manteca Golf Course, located at 305 N. Union Road.

“We’re hoping to have the place packed and give people a great show,” said Bolden – who last played at Chez Shari three years ago. “We’d like to see this become a regular stop for our band to bring some music to people here in Manteca.”

Bolden – a Stockton resident – has also hosted music nights at the now-defunct Beverly’s House of Soul on W. Yosemite Ave.  He credits Blues greats like B.B. King, Albert King, T-Bone Walker, and Bobby Bland with influencing his vocal style.

“To me it’s all about the words and the lyrics telling a story,” Bolden said on why he loves blues music. “Sometimes the words just hit you in the guy, and sometimes they do that to somebody sitting right next to you. It’s all about telling a story that other people can feel.”

Doors will open at 7 p.m. on the night of the event with music beginning at 8 p.m. For more information, contact Chez Shari at 825-8524, or Bolden at 598-9875.
