Manteca Parks & Recreation’s first middle school dance of 2017 is taking place Friday, Jan. 27, at the Neil Hafley School Gym, 849 Northgate Drive.
The Neil Hafley gym is being used due to construction at Golden West School. Given it is a smaller gym, only the first 400 participants will be admitted.
The dance is coordinated by the Manteca Youth Advisory Commission. It is from 6 to 9 p.m. while the ticket window opens at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.
The dance is open to Manteca Unified students in the sixth to eighth grade only. Student ID cards are required. There are no in/out privileges. Security is provided by the Manteca Police Department.
The dance features a DJ and lights as well as glow items for sale and a snack bar.

Dog park grand
opening Thursday
The grand opening of Manteca’s first dog park is Thursday, Jan, 12, at 4 p.m.
Refreshments will be served at the park located along Eucalyptus Street on the northern side of the Manteca Civic complex immediately west of the Manteca Senior Center.
The Friends of the Manteca Parks and Recreation Foundation still has customized bricks for sale that will be installed in the dog park.
One brick is $100 while a second brick is $80. That allows you to personalize them with a dog’s name or an appropriate message. All proceeds will go to securing amenities for the dog park.
Payment is by cash or check and is being accepted at the Parks and Recreation office at 252 Magnolia Avenue. There are a limited number of bricks available on a first-come, first-served basis until they are sold out.
After Thursday, the dog park will be open daily from dawn to dusk. It may be closed, however, during operating hours for routine maintenance.
It is the only park in Manteca where dogs can legally be off leash.

Spaghetti dinner
and bingo Monday
Tickets for the Monday, Jan. 16, Manteca Senior Center Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo Night are on sale now. Each $8 ticket includes entry, spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, beverages, and dessert. Bingo is played after the dinner.
Bingo six-packs are available for $5 each. You must be at least 50 years old to attend this event, and you must purchase a dinner ticket to play bingo. For more information, call the Senior Center at 456.8650.

Madden Video
Game Tournament
The Manteca Youth Advisory Commission will host the second annual Madden Video Game Tournament beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane.
Registration is open now at the Senior Center front desk. The $20 entry fee includes a one-game guarantee and a lunch meal. The tournament will be split into three age divisions ranging from 10 years through adult.
The possibility exists for free registration for those who can provide an Xbox One, Madden 17 and a 42” TV for tournament day. If you have any questions, please call Taylor Hasal at the Manteca Senior Center at (209) 456.8650.

Challenger Basketball
League sign-ups
The Manteca Parks & Recreation Challenger Basketball League, for children with disabilities, will begin Saturday, Jan. 14, with games and practices at Golden West Community Gym.
There are already about 20 participants enrolled. Registrations are still being accepted, so if you know somebody who is interested in the league, they should call the Parks and Recreation office at 456.8600.
