Manteca Police are looking for a driver that led them on a short chase with speeds reaching up to 100 mph before crashing into a garage on Mission Ridge Drive and then fleeing on foot.
The incident came on the heels of a drive-by shooting near the East Yosemite Avenue McDonald’s fast food restaurant where an occupied vehicle was struck with bullets. No one was injured in that incident.
Officer Eichel attempted to stop a blue Chevrolet Camaro on Saturday at 2:37 a.m. for reckless driving near the intersection of West Yosemite Avenue and Locust Avenue. When the officer activated his emergency equipment the Camaro immediately fled southbound on Locust Avenue reaching a speed of 100 mph.
As the vehicle neared the intersection of Locust Avenue and Mission Ridge Drive the driver applied the brakes to negotiate the “T” intersection, but was traveling too fast. The Camaro left 150 feet of locked wheel skid and went into under steer, continuing southbound through the intersection. The vehicle struck the northeast corner of the garage in the 800 block of Mission Ridge Drive causing significant damage to the east wall of the structure.
The driver fled into a backyard and started jumping fences. Manteca Police established a perimeter, but we were unable to locate the suspect.
Manteca Fire was called to check on the structural integrity of the residence. Fire advised the residence was sound and no electrical or gas lines were damaged.
The distance of the pursuit was under a mile.
Police are working to determine the identity of the driver.
