SANTA CLARITA (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities say two juveniles found in a car with guns and live ammunition told authorities they were attempting to take part in a kidnapping prank.

The male suspects were arrested Saturday near Santa Clarita after someone reported a suspicious vehicle in a residential neighborhood.

Sheriff’s Lt. Doug Mohrhoff tells the Santa Clarita Signal newspaper that the firearms belonged to the boys’ fathers.

Mohrhoff didn’t provide details about the planned prank but said it could have gone seriously wrong.

The suspects could face weapons-related charges. Their ages were not released.
