A 28-year-old Manteca woman, believed to be under the influence, led police on a short high-speed chase before fleeing into her house in the 200 block of Wawona Street Wednesday night.
Shortly after 8 p.m. a Manteca officer traveling eastbound in the 300 block of Wawona reported seeing a Mazda CX7 pass his patrol car at a high rate of speed. He followed the vehicle eventually stopping the driver in the 700 block where the driver allegedly refused to roll down her window or unlock her car door.
Identified as Vanessa M. Avila-Gillette, she then drove away from the officer at a high rate of speed traveling eastbound on Wawona before coming to a stop in the 200 block of the street where she fled on foot into a residence.
After additional police units arrived at the home, officers made entry into the residence and took Gillette into custody. Her husband was also arrested for obstructing a police officer attempting to make an arrest, police said.
While in the booking area of the police department, the woman was charged with kicking a police officer. She was taken to San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.
She was charged with reckless evasion of a police officer, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, battery on a police officer and child endangerment.
