A 22-year-old Ripon woman was killed early Friday morning when her 2002 Toyota veered off the Highway 120 Bypass near Guthmiller Road and rolled down the embankment toward an onramp to the freeway.

Friends identified her as Jennifer Jenske who grew up in Ripon and had attended Ripon schools including Ripon High.

CHP officer Angel Arceo said the single vehicle collision occurred about 4:30 a.m. as the vehicle was headed eastbound just east of Guthmiller Road and east of I-5.  For an unknown reason the driver veered to the right causing the vehicle to travel over the right shoulder and down a dirt divided section between the freeway and the Guthmiller Road onramp, the officer said.

The vehicle started to roll over as it crossed the Guthmiller Road onramp, the officer said.  The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the minivan sustaining fatal injuries, according to the CHP.

The vehicle continued to roll across the Guthmiller Road on ramp and down the dirt embankment along the south side of the ramp coming to rest.  Alcohol was not seen as a contributing factor to the crash at this time, the officer noted.

The crash site was near a point on the eastbound side of the freeway where a Manteca police cadet ran off the roadway and down the embankment several years ago when he was returning home from his work in the early morning hours as well.
