A CVS Pharmacy used drug collection receptacle has been mounted permanently into the floor of the Manteca Police Department’s front lobby for the convenience of the public, according to Capt. Charlie Goeken.

CVS is teaming up with The Partnership at Drugfree.org to create the innovative community donation program enabling police departments to apply for a receptacle for their community as Manteca has done.

This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Manteca, Ripon and Lathrop are hosting the “Got Drugs” opportunity for their residents to turn in their used or expired medications for safe disposal.

Goeken is advising residents turning in their old medications to remove the pills from containers and packaging and consolidate loose pills in a plastic bag. Medical sharps will be accepted at the three area locations. The medical sharps are being accepted only in sealed bio-hazard or other sturdy sealed containers.

The Manteca Police location is at 1001 W. Center St. The Ripon Police Department is located at 259 N. Wilma Ave. and Lathrop collection is set for the Lathrop Senior Center at 15707 Seventh St.
