Athena Ferro and Kiana Bristow miss Shasta School.

The former students were promoted last spring and are currently freshmen at Manteca High. While they’re active in their new surroundings, Ferro and Bristow have plenty of fond memories of their years at the Manteca Unified elementary site.

“We missed our favorite teachers,” said Ferro during the annual Back to School Night on Tuesday.

Principal Audrey Greene was thrilled to see the former students. She also shared words of encouragement.
“High school is about having plans,” Greene said.

Bristow, for one, has plans of joining the Buffalo soccer squad.

Ferro is also looking beyond high school.

“I want to go to college,” she said, with hopes of someday going to school in Hawaii.

Shasta’s Back to School Night included the Sephos family taking charge of grilling the hot dogs and tending to meals.

“We’ve been cooking the hot dogs here since 1999,” said Amanda Sephos, who once again prepared to serve at least 300 folks.

“We usually sell out,” she added.

Back to School Night – hosted by the Community Club – also included the various vendor and information booths, from MUSD Nutrition Services to Indian Education.

In addition, the event served as an open house, enabling students and their families to visit the classrooms and meet with the teachers.
