The Manteca Firefighters Association raised $5,000 for the Manteca Fire Chief’s Foundation Thursday by hosting a softball tournament at the Big League Dreams sports complex that drew teams from 15 fire departments throughout Northern California.
The foundation’s marquee project is providing and installing smoke detectors in the residences of senior citizens and the disabled. The non-profit organization has also helped victims of Manteca fires with the most recent being a family that had their apartment gutted by fire right before Christmas. The foundation replaced the children’s clothing and Christmas gifts lost in the fire.
